What to Expect:

This is a High Adventure!  Many of us have not  yet participated in a long outing without facilities, Dutch ovens, griddles and coolers for more than one or two meals.  Expect to Challenge Yourself Physically, Experience Beautiful Scenery, Share Great Fellowship and  Create Memories for a Lifetime but understand:

%  Food will be Patrol Style backpacking meals with dry ingredients 4 days and 3 nights or 10 meals.

%  We will filter our drinking and cooking water

%  You will be responsible for your own personal waste!

%  We could be canoeing 6 to 8 hours a day  in very hot or rainy conditions (We will obviously stop and take shelter during  severe weather conditions)

Training Requirement:

Mandatory planning and training session will be held over the next 6 weeks (Approximately 6 hours).

We anticipate two or three meetings to plan food, equipment, transportation and practice paddling longer distances and to estimate how many hours it will take to move a group of  six canoes 27 miles.

The Troop will provide equipment including canoes, tents for scouts, cooking stoves and water filters.   Adults will have provide their own tents. We will coordinate the transportation , meals and other equipment requirements in the planning  sessions.

Please complete the below mentioned form if you are committed to go on this High Adventure and do not forget to Thank your High Adventure 2008 Committee members: Ryan Pescaro, Ben Heney and Chris Leonard for the research they have done to make this trip possible. And a Special Thank You goes out to Assistant Scoutmaster Mr. Ken Strom of Troop 182 for meeting with our committee and sharing his insight and observations about their trip in 2005.

THE MOOSE RIVER "BOW" TRIP 4 days, 3 nights

The Bow Trip, outside of Jackman, ME is one of the most well known multi-day paddle trips in the State of Maine. It affords the paddler a place to experience the quiet beauty of the woods in Northwestern Maine. Wildlife abounds in the region and it's called the Moose River for good reason. From scenic, island studded ponds like Attean and Holeb to short, fun-filled Class I and II rapids, the trip offers something for all paddlers. For the faint of heart, all the rapids on this trip are easily portaged.

The "Bow" trip is our most popular guided trip. The trip begins on Holeb Pond and travels the next two days on the Moose River, the 3rd day brings us onto Attean Pond, one of the most beautiful ponds in the area, which is scattered with islands and sandy beaches. On all of our guided trips the food and the paddling are first rate.
