TROOP 180 HIGH ADVENTURE 2009

When:
Early Morning Departure: Saturday Aug 16, 2009
Late Evening Return: Wednesday Aug19, 2009
Destination:
We will Backpack ~20 miles on the Long Trail in Vermont's Green Mountains. Starting on the Long Trail at VT Rt 140 and heading South to VT USFS Rd 21 or VT Rts 11 & 30.Possibly taking the Alpine Slide down Mt Bromley.
Who is Eligible:
ð Members of Troop 180 who are 14 or above with Camping Merit Badges
ð Eligibility of who and how many can attend is at the Scoutmaster ‘s discretion and space may be limited.
What to Expect:
This is a High Adventure! Many of us have not yet participated in a long outing without facilities, Dutch ovens, griddles and coolers for more than one or two meals. Expect to Challenge Yourself Physically, Experience Beautiful Scenery, Share Great Fellowship and Create Memories for a Lifetime but understand:
% Food will be Patrol Style backpacking meals with dry ingredients 4 days and 3 nights or 10 meals.
% We will filter our drinking and cooking water
% You will be responsible for your own personal waste!
% We will be backpacking with Full Packs 6 to 8 miles a day in very hot or rainy conditions (We will obviously stop and take shelter during severe weather conditions)
Training Requirement:
We anticipate two or three meetings to plan food, equipment, transportation and practice backpacking longer distances and to estimate how many hours it will take to move a group of eight 20 miles with full backpacks in the mountains.
Mandatory planning and training sessions will be held over the next 6 weeks (Approximately 32 hours).
Hike with Full packs:
Hike Mt Wachusett Sunday June 28 7AM meet at Mt Wachusett, bottom of Administration Road, off Westminster Road. See map: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/trails/WachusettMtn.gif
Hike 2 days White or Green Mountains Sat-Sun July 18-19
The Troop will provide equipment including, tents for scouts, cooking stoves and water filters. Adults will have to provide their own tents. We will coordinate the transportation , meals and other equipment requirements in the planning sessions.
